Day-2 Food Relief: Kosovo, Kyebando & Seguku

PCR works with different partners. Sometimes, it is through some of these partnerships that we identify the needs of the people in different communities.

On Tuesday we were privileged to work with Noela who works with Real Uganda a woman refugee led organization. This organization has two centers. In one of the famous slum area kosovo which is located in Lungujja, Rubaga area. These squalid and overcrowded urban streets are common in Uganda and they are always comprised of very poor people and they have no food. We were humbled to reach out to them and give these women some food relief. In this area we were able to give food relief to over 150 Congolese and the second one is in Kyebando. In Kyebando, we reached out to 180 South Sudanese. These included mothers, fathers and youths.

That very day we returned to Seguku and we distributed food relief to over 100 teenage mothers. These teenage mothers most of them were working on petty jobs and very small scale businesses that were hit hard by the Covid pandemic and they could no longer operate. Some are casual laborers and that is where they used to get their daily meal but then businesses were closed so they were unemployed and they could barely afford a meal. Most of them are school drop outs who were chased from their homes because they got pregnant and the boys who impregnated them denied responsibility and they are left with no support whatsoever. This food relief came as a miracle for them and they were so grateful for the support.

We met with refugee journalists. It is also difficult for them to cope up with life in the Covid pandemic and coping with the life and work in a country that is not their native land. So we also supported them with some food relief. We were able to reach out to 14 of them.
